Ústí nad Labem chooses pioneer solution – new public transportation stops via PPP

2. 7. 2010

The first public transportation stops in Ústí nad Labem will start looking better as soon as this summer holidays. In a matter of 2 years, company euroAWK plans reconstruction of as many as 105 bus stops. Municipal council agreed on concession contract with this company on July 1st, 2010.

Prague based company euroAWK was selected in concession proceedings completely conducted for the city of Ústí nad Labem by the law firm MT Legal. Company called Facility worked as a consultant on the project. EuroAWK will operate 132 stops out of approximately 300 in the city.

This is a PPP project, which means a project, where the subject fully responsible for general condition of bus stops, their financing and their repairs is the private operator. EuroAWK plans to obtain the finances needed for building and maintenance of bus stops by operating a network of light billboards at these bus stops.

No money from the city budget will be needed for these services. On the contrary, the concessionary will contribute to the city budget from the revenues collected from selling advertisment space.

„This method is the best solution for our city to realise repairs of significant part of bus stops quickly and efficiently and to maintain their good condition and consequently improve quality of services for passengers,“ Chief Magistrate for Ústí nad Labem Mgr. Jan Kubata explains the reasons for choosing such project and adds that „I hope that this project will be successful and that it will be an inspiration for other cities.“
